The Enchanted Den

Beside the sparkling lake of Tamarind is a dark and mysterious cave, an ominous opening in the side of Mt. Forsythia. A shimmer of light can be seen from the corner of your eye and taunts you to come closer and closer. You know that you shouldn't, that you don't want to, that something's not right about this shimmer or this cave, but you can't help yourself and you approach.

As your eyes adjust to the dimness of the den, you see a piece of parchment hanging on the wall. It's a scroll, lovingly crafted, with sketches of dragons, all sorts of dragons, big and small, with information on each of them. For a moment, the scroll shimmers again and you're sure this is what you saw outside that lured you in.

You're suddenly lost in a new world, where the dragons have come to life all around you in the cave. At first, they don't seem to have noticed you, but then the tension in the air lifts all around you and you're sure you're in danger. They make no move to devour you, though, but several of them have gathered around what you only glimpsed for a second. It's where the eggs and hatchlings were. Deciding to back out slowly, you raise your hands in a friendly, unassuming gesture and make your way for the safety of the outside world. The last thing you want to be is dinner for anyone.

No one makes a move for you and you can now feel the sun on your back again, a safe feeling engulfing you. You're making your way back to the lake when you see another dragon surface. It catches your eye and the beautiful blue of its scales and fins makes you forget about the near death experience you just had, and forces your attention to another movement high above. Several movements, in fact, and you realize there's more dragons flying about, playing and hunting (thankfully not you), and teaching some of the other hatchlings to fly. It puts a smile on your face.

You're not sure when, but at some point, you sat down beneath the shade of a sycamore tree, watching the majestic creatures as they play in the water and high above it; some are even playing on the ground. It's so beautiful that you could sit here for days on end watching.

That's your last thought before you wake slowly to darkness around you. Your back is against the sycamore tree and you're staring out across the lake. The cave is off to your right, but no shimmer comes from within its depths now. Was it all a dream?

Two Headed Dragons

Two headed dragons are a special breed of dragons. They have two necks, two brains, two mouths, but one stomach and one main body. The two heads work usually together, but there are times when they will fight each other, attacking back and forth. They use their sharp teeth and wings to hunt large animals, and rarely eat plants. It is unknown what would happen if a two headed dragon were to mate with a one headed dragon, since it has never occurred. They only mate within their breed.

Vahus was the first male two-headed dragon to enter the cave, and as a result, has had three different female two-headed dragons to choose from. He's fair and honest, and above all noble, though, and thus has mated for life with his choice, Headaches. He's definitely the head of the two, asserting his dominance, but being just and respectful of his mate as well. Because of this nature, he is considered wise and often sought out for advice and a new perspective on a tough problem. He's also considered by many to be the cave's judge and jury, policing the ill actions of the others and making sure that everyone maintains a peaceful life with one another inside the cave.

Headaches is a severely moody, hormonal dragon, that often takes out her bad mood on other dragons. She constantly fights with herself, though, too, both heads bickering at one another, scaring other dragons, both adults and hatchlings alike. She also doesn't like to associate with other breeds of dragons, distancing herself to one side of the cave and hunting alone. For a long time she wished for a mate, as well as other two-headed dragons to associate with, and now she's gotten her wish and mated with Vahus for life. His dominant but kind personality often subdues and soothes her, and they are the perfect balance between one another.

Rohana was lost as a hatchling, tied to a tree and abandoned, the dragon equivalent of a stray. The other dragons in this cave took her in, providing her shelter and reassurance in a trying time, and when she was ready, they also provided guidance and new experiences. She's very grateful to them for this, and thus often helps out in any way that she can. She particularly loves helping with the eggs and hatchlings, guiding them as she was guided. Many have looked up to her because of this, and she's very well liked in the cave. Dark Green Dragons

Dark green dragons, once they mature, appear to become an entirely different species. However, this isn't true. Rather, they burrow underground and get nutrients from their vines. These vines are sometimes referred to as Dragon Grass. They are very violent, and will use these vines to capture, kill, and eat anything it sees that moves, as well as nearby plants. Luckily, its range is limited, and it can't use magic. Also, they tend to be easy to spot since they usually kill all plants around them and thus will be surrounded by a large clearing.

Guardian Dragons

Guardian dragons have a large shield on the end of their tails. Although it appears to be heavy, it is light, yet nearly unbreakable. Guardian dragons use their tail-shields, as well as their wings, to deflect attacks and protect others. Often, they will guard the eggs and hatchlings of a nest while others are away. They are generally peaceful, and will not retaliate unless necessary. They have no need to forage or hunt, as they are fed by those they protect.

Water Dragons

Blue is a color, not a mood, at least not to a dragon like Blasphemy. He's overall a happy dragon, one content and amused with the smallest of things. He values his friends and chooses them wisely, but never outright alienates another dragon, even if he doesn't like them. He's charismatic and often knows the right thing to say or do without actively thinking about it, which makes him very likable among the rest of the cave, and many often come out to visit him in the nearby lake before hunting. It's funny to think that Blasphemy could ever get tired of water, but he prefers warm water to cool water, which is sometimes hard to come by. It makes him cranky when he's forced to go deeper into cooler water for whatever reason, and he often stays out and away from others afterward, so that he doesn't snap at anyone or hurt their feelings. One of the things that really cheers him up, though, is watching some of his sky-bound friends as they soar and zoom around.

Mint Dragons

It's easy to see why Pillow is a well liked and well respected dragon in the cave. She's very motherly and caring, often watching over and nurturing the young hatchlings when their own mother is busy or away. She's also very friendly and likes to give advice to any dragon seeking it. In fact, she's never led a dragon astray when they came to her in time for her to help. She's also very gentle, leaving the fighting to the male dragons, but she can be fierce when protecting a hatchling or a dragon weaker than herself.
Her background is a bit of a mystery, since her father left her when she was so young, and her mother died shortly after she hatched, but she doesn't think that it's the history that makes the dragon, but rather the choices they make.

Red Dragons

Red dragons are similar to typical story book dragons. Skywing Dragons

Stone Dragons

Stone dragons have a tough outer covering made of a stone-like material. They eat rocks, using the minerals they contain for nourishment and to keep up their stone outer shell. They rarely move, and are the heaviest of all types of dragons. Although they have wings, indicating flight ability, no one has ever seen a stone dragon flying.

Humdinger was another dragon that came to the cave as a hatchling, already weathered and worn from being abandoned so early in life. He also already had his wings, but wasn't very good at using them, and was jealous of all the dragons that could. He's still jealous of the skywing dragons in the cave when he sees them taking flight and flying around so majestically, and prefers to socialize with the reds and two-headed dragons when he can, and even the mints. He knows he'll never be graceful, but he's not always so bitter. In fact, he hides his jealousy of the flightier dragons well, often friendly and joking with them about his lack of grace. Many of the dragons think him somewhat of a comedian for this behavior, which suits him just fine.

Vampire Dragons

Vampire dragons are members of the undead. They sustain themselves by drinking the blood of others. It is said that they are only "alive" at night, and seem dead or asleep during the day, as they cannot endure sunlight for long periods of time. Vampire dragons can only reproduce by changing the eggs of other dragons, puncturing the shell with its fangs and injecting a venom that kills the baby inside.
